The Minna Street Recycler

i kinda thought i had seen it all.  and i figured if i hadn’t seen it all then i had seen pretty damn close to it all.  but i guess the old dirty alley still has a surprise or two left in her.

it was a pleasant wednesday afternoon.  hearing some noise outside i poked out my head to see what was up.  hmmm.  a naked guy.  i wonder where this is going?

what else is there to say about a guy high on smack who is being watched while he is naked and masturbating, lying on minna street between 5th and 6th, at 4:30 on a wednesday afternoon, with a wine bottle shoved up his ass, and with the needles in his hand which he had just “cleaned” using the puddle on the street?

shooting-up.  after cleaning the needles in one of the side-puddles.  this is not what my friends and i meant when we began using the term “puddling” (although our definition isn’t much more pleasant.)

enjoying the spoils of his labor.  until a car comes a long and wants his parking spot.

exploring his options and finally making a selection. (you can see the blood from the injection-site on his left arm in the second picture.)

insert and enjoy! (you can see the blood from the injection-site on his left arm in the fourth picture.)

turn out the lights, the party’s over!

what else is there to say? other than that the cork is still in the bottle.

kudos to the dude for adhering to the reduce/reuse/recycle mantra on that wine bottle … but why is this ok?

20100923 update:  i guess this guy caught more than my eye. check out someone else’s photographs of him on the same day but from a different vantage point.

20100924 update:  N. B.:  i’ve been chastised on reddit.com for not knowing that the guy is probably not shooting smack but is likely shooting meth … my apologies to those in the know.  send me your phone number so the next time this happens (and it will) i can call and get the expert opinion on what is in the needle!

i originally published this on another site, intending for just a few friends to see it.  it seemed to be a little popular, so i’ve moved it to its rightful place.

The Minna Street Huffer

just a random day.  heard some hollering in the alley … turned out it was this guy … huffing on a can of compressed air and repeatedly screaming “your mama … n*****”.  and each time, he drew out the n-word for a second or two.  he was huffing and hollering for about 20 minutes.  he eventually saw me taking pictures and wisely decided to leave.  i’m surprised someone didn’t beat his ass, because imho that is exactly what he needed.

who the f*&# huffs from a can of compressed air?  whatever is left of his lungs must be frozen.

along with the whole scene in general, a funny thing is that in the picture where he was flipping the bird, it wasn’t intended for anyone in particular … he didn’t even know he was being photographed at that point.  oh, and the compressed air.  pretty effing retarded.

sunnyside sro hotel: illegal dumping or theft of services?

this is about illegal dumping by the owners and managers of the sunnyside sro hotel at 135 6th street.

the building at 965 mission street has its backside against minna street.  in contradiction of san francisco regulations, the folks who own and manage that building leave their large garbage dumpsters out in the street 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (but that’s a topic for an entirely separate blog entry.)  one of the many pitfalls of leaving garbage dumpsters out all the time is that they attract illegal dumpers.

picture it:  minna street, monday, july 12, 2010.  here’s a snap of the 965 mission street dumpsters out on minna street at about 11:00 in the morning:

a couple hours later i see a guy walking down the street with a garbage bin in tow.  he stops at the dumpsters and nonchalantly starts to unload his garbage bin into them.  i snapped a couple more photos:

i went outside to see where this guy was coming from/going to; he was returning to the sunnyside sro hotel.  in some ways i feel bad for the guy.  there’s no doubt in my mind that his manager told him to take the garbage and ditch it somewhere.  he was “just doing his job”.  on the other hand …

i called bullshit and told the manager that if she didn’t go pick up their trash immediately that i’d be calling the sfpd.  she sent the same guy back out there, this time to pick up the trash.  here’s a video of that (most of the audio has been deleted because there was nothing but wind noise):

best in full screen and at the higher resolutions

yet another incident where sro hotel owners and managers try and offload their expenses and work onto someone else.
